Pencil Holder
The pencil holder has changed the way organization is carried
out in our house. Workstations are covered in pencils, crayons, paper and coloring books and craft goods. Other
desks have dad’s suitcase, fancy pens sprawled around alongside pencil, work papers, and little silver pouches that
scream, “Don’t touch!” Maybe you can relate? We try desperately to organize ourselves but at the end of the day we
don’t seem to get round to it. Maybe this is because we are lazy? It must be, because there are clearly many ways
to easily organize yourself nowadays.
This is why products like organizers and shelves are becoming
more and more appealing. I love holders for my pencils and pens and paper trays. The pencil ones are the best
though because you can make them yourself. It is a lot of fun to have a look around the house and find any
containers that you’ve kept, just knowing that you’re going to have a use for them someday but not knowing what. I
know your respective partners, family members etc probably have a go at you about this all the time but now you
have a great opportunity to show them that hoarding can be useful. Take for example a glass jar.
You can empty out any remnants of jam and wash the jar in hot
water. Soak off any labels with company names on them to make them look less like trash and more like your own
creation. Once you have done this you can choose the age group you are aiming for. It is always fun to make
something for the kids. You can get an economy pack of star stickers and place them on the jar then take some clear
nail polish and put a thin coat over the stars. This will ensure they stay on the jar and don’t lose their shine.
It’s much easier to work on wood though.
Many people have old utensil holders made out of wood in their
kitchens. As they become outdated or worn, you can transform them into something new and wonderful. Any craft paint
will work for a unique design made by you or your children. If you really want a souvenir you could press down the
child’s hand onto the holder. Another great idea is to carve lines into it. It doesn’t matter if you go parallel or
vertical. Crossing them might prove to be a bit more time consuming but if you do it meticulously and carefully it
can create a great 3D checkered effect and a nice texture. If you would rather buy something, you can get a
recycled teddy bear holder from Alibab for $5.29 or a Kantek acrylic holder for $9.99. It’s quite simple but they
come in very appealing colors.
The pencil holder is a great way to keep things in order and
hopefully spur on a bit of creativity and quality time spent in the home with your family. Don’t be afraid to try
to make one yourself because the results are only limited to your imagination and the amount of effort that you are
willing to put in. Remember, something as simple as a handprint or a word can be very effective and even
sentimental. Otherwise, grab something you like and get sorting!
